Clare Pavey - Ceramic artist

After many years painting commissioned animal portraits, I discovered the more tactile medium of clay and embarked on a City & Guilds course in ceramic design.

My main body of work is animal and figurative sculpture, where my preferred techniques of smoke-firing and oxide washes create subtle markings that I feel compliment my fine art background. Most of my pieces are slab-built with larger work being fired to stoneware temperatures.

A recent collaboration with my sister, Heather Coleyhas taken me in a new direction using the above effects to try to mimic the patterns and textures of tree bark. Our combined skills are used in this project to express our mutual fascination and love of the natural world.

Examples of my paintings can be viewed in my Portfolio at Artists and Illustrators website.
